Monday Motivation: Growth Mindset

This chart was designed to develop trust between relationships, but it can applied to English learning as well. Having a growth mindset can be beneficial to your studies. Having a growth mindset means that you’re constantly looking to improve, looking to make progress and finding ways to do this. You won’t be that person stuck in the same spot for years.

So what do you need to do in order to have a growth mindset?

1.You need to set attainable goals. Sit down and really think about what goals you’d like to set for yourself. Write them down so you will be reminded of it everyday. Maybe your goal could be to read English every single day.

2.You need to face the reality. You may feel like you’re already reaching your goals, but are you honestly? Take an honest look at yourself and examine what is happening. Maybe you feel like you’re reading English everyday, but are you actually? Taking an honest look at yourself will help you to examine where you need to go.

  1. You need to think about your options. Now that you’ve faced the reality of your current English learning progress, think about what you can do to improve the situation. Maybe you realize you’re only reading English every three or four days. An option could be to read every single day.
  2. You need to think about what you will do. Okay so you’ve told yourself to read every day. That’s awesome. But what will you actually do to achieve this goal? Be honest with yourself.
  3. You need to think about tactics. How will you reach your goals? When will you do it? Brainstorm ideas, and write them down. Perhaps you could put a timer on your phone dedicated to reading time. Perhaps you can spend an hour or two finding interesting articles or books you’d like to read. Perhaps you can find some time before bed to read. Find methods that work best for you.
  4. You need to think about your habits. When we start a new goal we’re pretty eager about it, so we’re more likely to follow through. But after awhile you can get bored or lose interest. This is when the GROWTH mindset comes in. What will we do to continue our success and to continue our growth? Can we devote more time to reading? Can we read more scholarly articles? The decision is up to you, but find ways to continue improving upon yourself and growing. You’re not completely finished when you reach your goal, this is the time to grow even more.

Hopefully this infographic will help you develop a GROWTH mindset. Find goals, strive towards them and continue growing! Learning never stops!
